Doctors driven out of business
December 5th, 2007 | by admin |In his 2004 address in Chicago, AMA’s President, Donald Palmisano, M.D., claimed that the rising numbers of malpractice suits are driving doctors from practicing medicine by malpractice lawyers.
In his Chicago address, Dr Palmisano wanted to take the approach to flaws and errors that the aviation industry has, which encourages reporting so that a mistake does not occur again. Currently, if a doctor knows he/she has made a mistake, often he/she will not admit it for fear of admitting liability or malpractice. "We need to put a reporting system in place where physicians and other health professionals can report errors without fear of litigation," Dr Palmisano said.
