Helping a Child with Scoliosis Through the Aid of Spine Surgery

November 22nd, 2008 | by admin |

If you’re the curvature in your child’s spine is more than 40-50 degrees, your physician will most likely recommend spine surgery to help relieve some of your child’s pain.  Scoliosis spine surgery is one of the longest and most complicated orthopedic surgical procedures performed on children. The operation takes approximately six hours. Hospitalization can last several approximately six days and physical activities are restricted for several months.  Spine surgery is most commonly performed through very small incisions in the back.  For less common, severe or very rigid curves, additional surgery may be required through the front or side of the body. Most pediatric orthopedic surgeons are extremely experienced and skilled in these procedures.  Getting a second opinion is your right and is encouraged to make sure that you are making the right decision.
