How can someone come to study in America from Iran?

Joojoo asked:

I have some family in Iran right now and they are planning to come to California to study. They want to apply for MBA and Mechanical Engineering. They want to get their Masters. I was wondering how can they apply to study so they can get their visas, how long will it take for them to come, if you know, what kind of universities, or cal states are good for them, and is the pricing the same as everyone in the universities and cal states? Thanks in advance!

There are lots of students who get admission from American schools and move to the states each year.
Like other applicants, they have to apply to different schools, and based on their academic background, they might get admitted or not.
Some schools have different application fee and tuition for international students, but normally there is not a big difference.
If they receive fellowship or full funded assistantship, all expenses including tuition, fees, insurance and living expenses are covered.
As you mentioned, getting visa is still problematic for Iranian students due to tentions between the two countries, but it does not mean, their visa cannot be approved, it just takes longer so it is highly recommended to apply for visa 6months ahead of the begining of their academic program.
BTW, they hae to take TOEFL or IELTS to show competency in English language and also GRE for mechanical engineering one and GMAT for the MBA is needed.
Approcah me with questions of yours in case you have any.
