We’ve all seen the headlines of Russia docking in Cuba and selling weapons to Iran. How imminent is a war with Iran, and what role will Russia play?

It’s only imminent if we allow ourselves to be conned into it.

Not imminent at all. Going to war with Iran wouldn’t even be an option right now for the military because it would take years of strategic planning to invade Iran. This is a country that has a military and has back up from other countries and is predominantly metropolitan so you are talking about a VERY high casualty rate. I highly highly doubt our leaders would consider war with Iran anytime soon.
Your friend needs to keep his mouth shut because I know for a fact that is not information he should be sharing with people.

Iran supplies insurgents and allows them to train in Iran, then cross over into Iraq. They constantly threaten the safety of Israel and are obnoxiously attempting to acquire nuclear technology. It seems that a war could be substantiated with Iran.

Not necessary. The US is now so hated throughout the Muslim world that Iran can easily wait for the Shia majority in Iraq to take control and then begin to cooperate with other countries in the area that hate our guts. This is what our neocon brothers consider “victory.” They should have read a few more history books and listened to Rick Warren a bit less.

Ain’t gonna’ happen. But, I wouldn’t be surprised if Isreal took them out in a few days war. That could happen.

Israel and supporters of the US military-industrial complex would like one. It’s not as if Iran is a bastion of freedom and democracy you know. They also tweaked our noses pretty badly in 1980 without proper payback.
But if we were stupid enough to invade without Russia and China’s blessing, it would be like a 20th century proxy war. They would supply guns to the enemy and we would become bogged down in a war of attrition. Russian and US troops will never meet on a battlefield. I doubt we will ever meet Chinese troops again either.
Russia is just trying to show that it has recovered from its post communist/imperial funk and is ready to resume the struggle for world domination with us. More importantly, the United Russia Party is trying to instill confidence and national pride in their own constituents. Iran is their trading partner, and Russia doesn’t like US hegemony, but its not as if they were inseparable friends or anything.

Very little, the US has no reason, and I’ve heard if the US does attack it then Russia will attack the US (I just heard that not sure if it is true) and the US wouldn’t risk it, with our economy being how it is.

Not concerned at all. I work for Military Sealift Command now, which transports ordnance and supplies for the military wherever they need it, and I can tell you none of us are so much as batting an eye over Iran. They’re a bag of hot air.
Israel has more to fear from them than we do.

Ayatollah Ali Khomeini is getting on in years and is the supreme ruler of Iran. He keeps the younger Iranians in check however his death

We can see here the difference between American and Russian tactics with a hostile country. The USA prefers to use the cop method, in which mouthing off and demanded halting the nuclear program in Iran takes place. Russia prefers the gangster method, in which an enemy is sucked up to by selling it the weapons, thus mentally taking Russia off the list of enemies.
Russia is not actually a friend of Iran. The reason they keep selling the Iranians stuff is so that they don’t buy it from China. China’s military is growing like a dandelion, and is becoming a greater threat to Russia, as well as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, India, Canada, and the USA. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if within the next decade a cold war between Russia and the PRC commenced.
