How much does a persian carpet cost in Iran or Uzbekistan?

February 11th, 2012 | by admin |
got asked:

I live in Europe and a carpet shop in my city is selling all they have cos they’re going to close.. an average quality carpet from south Iran, 220×125cm costs roughly 600dollars…
Do you know how much does it cost when you live in Iran to buy a hand-made persian carpet?
Thanks a lot!
its 600dollars because they do -50% for all their carpets since they wanna to close.

I bought a 6 square meter hand made persian carpet, with silk flowers , TABRIZ, $600 from Iran 3 years ago but now it is $1100.

Well, it all depends on the city that you live in. One of the best brands of Persian carpet here is “Farshe setareye kavire yaz” it is made in Yazd - a city in the central part of Iran. It also depends on the type of the carpet. If you are talking about hand-made ones, sure, they are very expensive even in Iran. As a general rule, a 300×400cm factory-made carpet could start from $300 to $250, but again you should know that the design is also very important. The better the design, the more the price.

The same size for a hand-made carpet would cost around $500 to $600, but like I said, it again depends on the design.

If you can take a photo and put the photo online if you are serious about this cause it can be different based on the type, sketch etc; a photo would make it much easier to guess the price. btw it seems fair if it is hand-made.

We are a carpet weaving Iranian family. We wove and sold a premium quality full silk 2.5×1.5 m carpet like ten years ago for $1100. So if you’re looking for a high quality hand-woven carpet now (with this rate of inflation in Iran) you’ll probably have to fork over something in the neighbourhood of 6-10 thou.
